MHLAB001 // VA - Damned Lies

Medieval Heresies Lab is a new series of digital compilations working as another side of Thrae's label Medieval Heresies. The first chapter "Damned Lies" explores the world of modern noise music, moving between rhythmic innuendos, noisescapes, harsh passages, while keeping at minimum the techno-oriented moments.

Black Pyramid experiments with cinematic scenarios and harsher elements in “Chaz Coe”, an industrial-tinged episode in which the top of 80's dark sci-fi/action scores are reworked more noisily. A robotic mantra is the protagonist of an enthralling journey into a captivating number.
Colombian sonic terrorist Bad Faith Actor pursues a rhythmic mantra in “Into The Maelström”, employing droning kicks and combative beats. A cathartic ritual made of mechanical movements pictures a path made of syncopations and urban atmospheres.
Tortura Bianca welcomes us with “Army Of Suffering”, eerie drones reached by a majestic pulsation with robotic innuendos. Distorted kicks and crawling snares evoke a dystopian reality full of dark soundscapes and ominous effects and the number sees a crescendo that grows until it climaxes with a chaotic series of sharp effects.
IGNOTA creates a galloping obsession in “Armorum Sonitum”, a physical mantra with modular sounds and a minimal rhythmic approach. The result is a very eerie dark techno experience, conjuring abrasive atmospheres and disorienting scenarios, a perfect moment for underground dancefloors.
Klutommestra injects techno elements in “Forcipe”, focusing on broken rhythms and acid lines. A sci-fi world is conjured via blips and distortions, and frantic cymbals give us a frenetic dance among the ruins. An energetic episode reminding us of a different facet of the label's music.
ErrorDrive presents “Holding String”, a cinematic experience starting with ominous orchestrations and following suit with rhythmic rituals with a retro-futuristic taste. Whispered vocals add a sense of uneasiness, before a broken structure guides us in a lysergic dimension.
Aleksander Jagodziński operates on droning distortion and sparse rhythms in “Genetic Prototype”, an exercise in controlled tension ready to explode in pounding mantras with dystopian undertones. The track configures a game of restriction and release, building an abrasive yet evocative crescendo.
Hålbå contributes with “Alpha Error” and its dark atmospheres, starting with a thundering intro doomed to collapse into a structured chaos. Moving between dark ambient and drone, the track evokes a conceptual storm, and in its final part malevolent voices remind us of primal entities.
HELLDEGÅRD presents a harsh moment with “Blinded By The Lunar Eclipse”, a dissonant number with disorientating noisecape recalling death industrial and power electronics elements, but in a modern fashion. The track adds distortions during its course, conceiving a shrilling and hellish experience.
Giorgio Cerrato dwells in darkness with “Lycosa Tarantula”, a dark ambient affair full of eerie atmosphere at start, and a percussive rhythmic noise output later. The track has a slow and crawling growth, adding more and more rhythmic elements during its course and climaxing in sharp and rusty distorted effects.
Snakes of Russia ends the compilation with “Anchor”, a soothing and dark voyage and an elegant track with cinematic vibes and ambient structures. Orchestral sounds and synth sounds give us glimpses of emotional melody amidst a crawling rhythmic structure suspended upon eerie atmospheres.
